We Believe in the
Power of Play
Play is like a superpower for growing up. It’s not just about having fun; it helps us learn and become better people. When we play, we use our imagination, solve problems, and practice how to handle different situations. It’s a way to explore and understand the world in a safe and creative space. Play isn’t just for kids; it’s a lifelong tool for learning and building important skills. It lets us express ourselves, bounce back from challenges, and understand how to get along with others. So, whether it’s building with blocks or pretending, the power of play helps us grow, be happy, and learn throughout our lives.
Learning through play is at the core of our approach, encompassing various developmental aspects:
Physical Developement
Children will actively engage in large motor skills, including running, jumping, balancing, and climbing.
Fine motor skills will be honed through activities such as using scissors, glue, playdough, manipulating materials, working with puzzles, and building with blocks.
Establishing a foundation for appropriate rules within a safe environment.
Social and Emotional Skills
Providing a platform for children to develop in a social setting beyond the family environment.
Fostering self-esteem and confidence.
Cultivating a caring attitude towards others.
Emotional Goals
Cultivating independent work skills with self-confidence.
Encouraging the identification and expression of feelings—fear, anger, happiness—in an acceptable manner.
Providing opportunities for children to showcase their learning, building inner confidence and reducing the frequency of perceived failures.
Cognitive Developement
Through play, children will rehearse life roles, investigate, and problem-solve.
Building on existing knowledge and progressing at individual paces.
Developing imagination and fostering a positive attitude towards learning.
April – Owner
I enjoy playing volleyball, camping, and exploring new destinations. Celebrating 13 years of marriage and blessed with three wonderful children, I dedicated three years to working in child care. As a compassionate and family-focused businesswoman, I actively involve the community where I’ve resided for the past 28 years in Coal Valley. Our family treasures our farm, and after being a stay-at-home mother until my kids started school, I pursued my passion for educating young minds. Investing in The Kids Corner has been a fulfilling journey, and I look forward to growing and learning alongside the children and staff, nurturing the generations to come.
Micah – Director
I cherish moments with my lovely wife and three children. Riding my motorcycle and bowling are some of my favorite pastimes. My journey in childcare spans a decade. Beginning as a cook, I transitioned to a school-age teacher after earning a few credits. Motivated to grow, I pursued a CDA (Child Development Associate) certificate, progressing to become a preschool and pre-kindergarten teacher. Five years later, I took on the role of a discovery preschool teacher for two-year-olds. Eager for further education, I pursued an associate degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. My passion led me to become a family specialist, assisting families with enrollment and enhancing their childcare experience. Upon obtaining my ECE degree, I advanced to the position of assistant director, and within a year, I was promoted to center director. Joining The Kids Corner as the center director marked the latest chapter in my professional journey.

Amanda – Teacher
Since 2006, I’ve had the pleasure of working with preschoolers, and I absolutely love it! During my free time, I find joy in hiking, spending quality moments with my husband and our lively household of animals, and indulging in scary movies. The seed of my teaching passion was planted back in first grade when my teacher, Ms. Barton, recognized my enthusiasm by giving me extra worksheets and stickers to take home. Inspired, I transformed my living space with a large chalkboard my dad brought home, using those worksheets to play teacher to my imaginary “students.”
